ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Noam Chomsky has taught for many years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is Institute Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy. His 1957 book Syntactic Structures is widely credited with having revolutionized the field of modern linguistics. Chomsky is the author of numerous best-selling political works. Among his latest books are 9-11 (Seven Stories Press), Rogue States (South End Press), Understanding Power (New Press), and Hegemony or Survival (Metropolitan/Owl).
Tariq Ali is a writer and filmmaker. He has written more than a dozen books on world history and politics, as well as scripts for the stage and screen. His most recent books are Speaking of Empire and Resistance, Bush in Babylon, Rough Music, A Sultan of Palermo, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Axis of Hope. He is an editor of the New Left Review and lives in London.
